Do Your Words Reflect Your Hopes? (Free Meditation)

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if in these challenging times we could hold our own council and proceed in life from a place of inner power and authority, fuelling our hopes and dreams for a brighter future? Apparently, the subconscious mind listens to and acts on every single thought, word and action of ours and these are what determine our future.

The Subconscious Mind Follows Our Direction

Where attention goes, energy flows.’ James Redfield

Wherever our thoughts are, that’s where our energy is. The subconscious mind doesn’t stop and ask do we mean to focus on ‘this’ or ‘that’, it just follows our direction.

The subconscious mind listens when we feed into the fear and trauma this pandemic has triggered on a global scale. It listens when we feed into social media’s reporting of people’s lives and their battles as they face life and death situations. But it doesn’t just listen – it stores all this information in minute detail and acts upon it. As it does, it influences who we become.

Supporting Others

It is dangerous to neglect your own affairs and to take an idle curiosity in what others are doing. We should all be busily engaged in perfecting ourselves, but take a kindly interest in others.’ Florence Scovel Shinn, The Power of The Spoken Word

We can indeed support those in need by holding a positive and supportive space, and we do this through our positive thoughts, words and actions. Research shows that an act of kindness supports the emotional wellbeing of both the giver and the receiver. When we take a ‘kindly interest’ in others, we acknowledge our shared humanity and open up to the unity of oneness. Doing so brings us closer together.

Mass kindness has flooded the globe as people take a ‘kindly interest’ in serving humanity. The generosity of human spirit is overwhelming. Examples include those who:

  • Send uplifting messages to the elderly and those with weakened immune systems who are self-isolating.
  • Donate money, share recipes and swap exercise ideas.
  • Hold the wellbeing of our doctors, nurses, carers and all those heroes who work in the front line, as they put their lives at risk to serve and save the nation.
  • Have changed how they do business and utilised their skills and expertise to help meet the demand for personal protection equipment and ventilators.
  • Rally together to support others in their communities.
  • Continue to work to maintain the food supply chain – from production to distribution.
  • Find creative ways of continuing to support our children’s education.

And the list goes on, with people in all walks of life showing great acts of kindness to others.

The subconscious mind listens to these gallant and uplifting stories, reinforcing the belief that we live in a society that cares for and supports others. But it doesn’t just listen – it stores all this information in minute detail and acts upon it. As it does, it influences who we become.

Supporting Ourselves With Positive Self-Talk

I will not let anyone walk through my mind with their muddy feet.’ Mahatma Gandhi

We can choose to respond to this pandemic positively, and a very important and effective way of doing this is through self-talk. It helps if we realise that we’re naturally designed to adapt to change. By changing our words to a more self-affirming, positive, uplifting vibration, we can support ourselves through our natural ability to change.

Not only do the words we say have great importance but the tone in which we say them is of equal, if not greater, importance, as the tone changes the whole context of what it is we’re saying.  When we’re calm and relaxed, our tone tends to be more loving. When we’re stressed and anxious, our tone tends to be more fear-based and critical. Therefore, self-care is essential at this time, as is finding new ways to relax and recharge.

Do we really understand how impactful words can be? In her book, The Game Of Life And How To Play It, Florence Scovel Shinn, says ‘The subconscious mind has no sense of humour, and people often joke themselves into unhappy experiences.’ This is very evident in how certain areas of social media have been playing out the pandemic through the use of ‘sometimes’ inappropriate humour. Humour is an excellent way of diluting a situation provided it’s uplifting and positive, leaving us feeling good about ourselves and the situation. Our subconscious mind doesn’t make allowances for sarcasm. It merely takes on board what we tell it – no questions asked.

The subconscious mind listens to our caring and nurturing tone reinforcing the belief that we’re naturally designed to adapt to change. But it doesn’t just listen – it stores all this information in minute detail and acts upon it. As it does, it influences who we become.

Encourage And Shape A Better Reality

I AM are two of the most powerful words, for what you put after them shapes your reality.’

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to recognise that words are meant to encourage and shape, rather than destroy or undermine? This is true also of the words we tell ourselves. Science has shown that positive affirmations help stimulate the parts of the brain associated with an expectation or the receipt of positively valued or rewarding outcomes and new associations; enabling us to develop meaningful values through self-affirmation.

So be careful, that flippant comment, the continuous self-negating utterances said in frustration or anger, or every time we tell ourselves ‘I am scared, this is too much for me to cope with.’ These are all being imprinted into our subconscious mind in the minutest detail and with great accuracy.

The subconscious mind works very hard, both day and night, to make sure our behaviours fit a consistent pattern with our thoughts, emotions and feelings. We know from neuroscience, through the study of neuroplasticity, ‘neurons that fire together wire together’. What this means is, the more we give thought to something, the stronger it becomes in our thinking, eventually influencing and determining our behaviour and actions.  This supports the belief that our thoughts do create our reality.

It’s therefore of great importance that we repeatedly tell ourselves the positives, such as ‘I AM very blessed to have so much love and support.’ this too gets stored in the subconscious mind and influences every thought, word and action. The more we remind ourselves of this, the more entrenched it becomes.

The subconscious mind listens as we remind ourselves that we live in a wonderful world, full of kind, supportive people, that encourage us to build and shape a brighter future. But it doesn’t just listen – it stores all this information in minute detail and acts upon it. As it does, it influences who we become. This is the reality we then create.

The meditation that accompanies this blog post is more than a meditation, as it teaches you how to work from a place of heart coherence, where your brain is in alignment with your heart, you work with the power of pure intention to direct your thoughts, words and actions to bring about the reality you desire.

Genuinely transformational and empowering. I refer to this process as ‘Stepping Into Your Light’, and it forms the basis of a technique I call Soul Therapy – Infusion Techniques.  Click HERE for the blog post on Stepping Into Your Light.
