‘Astrology has no more useful function than this, to discover the inmost nature of a man and to bring it out into his consciousness, that he may fulfil it according to the law of light.’ ― Aleister Crowley, The Complete Astrological Writings
It’s all over social media at the moment, and it’s big news, that the planet Uranus has just moved out of the sign of Aries and into the sign of Taurus. This heralds a great change for many.
Seven years ago, when Uranus moved from Pisces into Aries, this transit moved through my birth chart in the 4th house of ‘family and home’, I personally had a lot of sudden and abrupt changes to my life, especially to my family life. So I got to thinking if this planet represents change, and there’s no doubt that change is going to happen, then I may as well learn to go along with it and work it to my benefit. Wow, was I pleased I did as I found manifesting so much easier and found whatever I needed in life came about with greater ease. I learned to be more adaptable and to go with the flow in life. I learned to not just embrace change but to also grow through the changes, regardless of how difficult they seemed at the time.
At the time of my birth, Uranus was in my 10th house. I researched the meaning of this placement and was pleasantly surprised to find the quirkiness of my career choice is all down to the great planet Uranus! It helped me better understand, and embrace, my own unique contribution to the world. As a result, I came to love my Uranus way of thinking, which is very much ‘outside the box.’
Over the years Uranus moved through the houses of the zodiac, and its transit now shows Uranus moving out of my fourth and into my fifth house, which is my house of creativity and of pleasure. I’m embracing all this brings. For starters, I’ve signed up for a creative writing course. I’ve booked singing lessons (family will find this hilarious for obvious reasons). With Uranus in Taurus, which is represented by the symbol of the bull, I’ve decided to ‘take the bull by the horns’ so to speak and be the change I want to be. I’ve set the intention to take whatever opportunities life gives me and to grow through them and embrace the change.
We’ve all experienced creative flashes of insight or where we’ve thought ‘outside of the box.’ We’re all familiar with the saying ‘Like a bolt out of the blue’, or ‘It came out of nowhere.’ These phrases would best describe the impact the planet Uranus makes in our lives.
Also known as the ‘great awakener’ Uranus is the planet of unexpected surprises. Astrologers talk about the irregular motions of Uranus indicating that it’s totally unpredictable. My astrology teacher says, ‘With Uranus expect the unexpected and still be surprised.’ While the planet Mercury is associated with the lower mind, Uranus as the higher octave of Mercury is very much associated with the higher mind.
It’s also known as a transcendental planet (Spiritual) as Uranus relates to that link between your conscious reality of life and where you go to dream and imagine, the place where your visions are yet to manifest. Some astrologers recognise that when an individual expresses his Uranus energy in a heightened state of expression, it helps to reverse imbalanced energies. These changes can bring about extreme shifts in beliefs, perceptions, and behaviour. In some cases, the impact of this planet has brought about entirely different or even opposite forms or ways of being. Uranus rules sudden changes, and on the collective level, it influences the cultural pulse of that period in time.
We all have Uranus somewhere in our natal chart. By identifying where this planet is placed in your chart will help you understand where you are likely to ‘think outside the box.’ The house it’s placed in and the planet that rules that house, along with any other planets that may occupy that house will all have a relationship with Uranus and with each other. This will help you understand what it is you’ve come here to do and what unique gift you’ve got to help along the way. When planets move from one house to another (also known as transits) the movement causes a temporary change in the conditions of that house. This is reflected in your own personal energy dependant on where Uranus resided at the time of your birth, which house he occupied and what other planets shared the space. I suppose you could say it’s a bit like group dynamics when there are changes within the group the needs and focus of the group changes and so too does the energy. It may seem unpleasant or inconvenient for a while, but it’s always for the greater and higher good of the person. It helps to think of Uranus as the great reformer as it urges us to make the necessary changes in order to manifest our dreams.
Uranus has an 84-year cycle and as it moves slowly through the 12 houses of the zodiac, it resides in any given house for seven years or so. I’ve heard it referred to as ‘The seven-year itch.’ As it moves into Taurus, it signifies a new seven-year cycle of change. So, I hear you ask, ‘What changes can it bring?’
Each house of the Zodiac is associated with a specific set of traits, starting with the self and expanding outward into society and beyond. When planets move into a Zodiac house, they light up that area of your chart, and this is reflected in your life. It helps if you know the house Uranus is transiting in your chart as it can help you identify which areas of your life are likely to be exposed to sudden and unpredictable change. Forewarned is forearmed, so to speak.
Uranus in your Birth Chart
To help you understand how this Uranus shift will impact you, please visit www.astro.com and create your own FREE birth chart. Then go into the extended chart selection and click on Chart Type in the Sections area and change it from Natal Chart Wheel to Natal Chart and Transits, then choose the Click Here option to show the chart. Look for the Uranus symbol in the inner circle of the chart, this will show you where the planet was at your time of birth, then look for the same symbol on the outer section of the chart, and this will show you where Uranus is now transiting in your chart. It may be that it remains within the same house for you, therefore lessening its impact on your energies. Or, indeed it may, as with my chart, indicate a change of house and herald lots of shifts and changes.
I’m very excited about the changes ahead simply because I’ve been able to find creative ways to express myself through this time of change and have found an outlet for the Uranus energies. I will simply go with the flow and change according to my needs. I hope you do too.
